Despite the fact that I’m mostly writing episodic shorts in an ongoing series, I try to make sure each individual story has a definitive ending. Most stories in The Casefile of Jay Moriarty could, in the event of my untimely demise, serve as a conclusion to the series.

This makes it all the more frustrating when I pick up a 300-page novel, for which I paid 15 whole Earth dollars, and find out it doesn’t actually have an ending. Just a sloppy cliffhanger and an ad for the next installment in the series. And this has happened multiple times.

I’m not sure when publishers started charging full price for books that aren’t finished, but it’s fucking inexcusable.
